Award win for High Spirits!
Great news – High Spirits, the fourth novel in my Spirits series of ghostly time travel tales, has won second prize in the Young Adult category of the Georgina Hawtrey-Woore Award! Formerly the Independent Author Book Awards, this is run by Words for the Wounded and recognises authors in the independent sector. This is the second time the Spirits series has been recognised at these awards, with The Spirit of London Highly Commended two years ago, but this is the first time any of my books for young people has won an award outright!
I’d like to thank the judges of the award and also everyone at Matador involved in the production of High Spirits, particularly Rosie Lowe who was production controller and did a superb cover design. This is a marvellous recognition of everything I’ve been trying to achieve with my books and comes at the perfect time, with the fifth and final Spirits novel coming soon. It also shows, once again, that indie authors are a force to be reckoned with!
My prize is a feature in Frost Magazine, which will include A Day in the Life article I’ve written especially, giving a behind-the-scenes look at High Spirits and a look ahead to the fifth book, The Coming of the Spirits.
More news soon, here and on Twitter. Meanwhile, read about the award here:

My author workshops and creative writing sessions continue successfully, with a World Book Day visit to Bidston Avenue Primary School, and a visit for Get Creative Week to Wirral Libraries with children from West Kirby Primary School. It's great to meet so many enthusiastic young readers and writers, and to see so many copies of my books sold and borrowed. It amazes me how many wonderful, exciting stories come out of my Vanishing Book and Story Hunt games, including Jomeo and Ruliet, a giant goldfish and rice pudding running through the streets of London!
Would you like a workshop for your school, library or event? Get in touch and see FREE brochure on the Home page.
