28 October 2019

My Creative Writing course for adults at Wallasey Central Library was a great success and the group worked really well together.  We spent the early weeks looking at key areas of writing such as plot, description, characters and dialogue, and then group members wrote a complete short story each, before bringing them back to the group for feedback.  At the end of the course on Friday (25 October), students who'd completed the whole course received a Certificate in Creative Writing.

I'm hoping to run the course again in the New Year so keep an eye on and my Twitter for details.

Had some feedback from the judges of the Kenneth Branagh Award for New Drama Writing, for which my play Mr Everyone was longlisted.  Here are some of their comments:

The writer of this piece has gone to a lot of trouble to get things right...a very clever set which can easily be adapted

I love this play

A good script, well written & amusing with a good ending

Mr Everyone is a 30-minute comedy and has now been listed for the Alfred Bradley and Kenneth Branagh Awards, as well as having a reading by Liverpool Scriptshop.  It's available for performance so, theatre producers, get in touch!

20 April 2019

I was delighted to be part of Radio Local on Easter Saturday, 20 April, hosting Story Time and reading 'Pupil Power' from The Dinner Club and Other Stories. I had a lovely welcome from presenters Hunt and Darton, staff and volunteers and it was great to have a live crowd present as well as to be broadcasting on the airwaves. The presenters were kind enough to mention next week's publication of The Coming of the Spirits as well as my Get Creative workshop (see below) and the atmosphere at the Cherry Tree was great. It was wonderful to be involved in such a worthy community arts project as well as our Borough of Culture year.

Check out these and all my books on My Stories and see below for workshop news.

You can now listen to my broadcast here (from 26.56).

17 April 2019

I will be on Radio Local this weekend, broadcasting live from the Cherry Tree Shopping Centre, Liscard, Wirral!  This is a new radio station broadcast straight from high streets in a 12-hour show, built for and with the places it visits, hosted by comedy duo Hunt and Darton and various local guest presenters and providing twelve hours of art on the airwaves!

I will be on-air at 5.30pm on Easter Saturday (20 April), as part of Story Time, reading 'Pupil Power' from The Dinner Club and Other Stories.

Tune in via Radio Wirral by downloading the Radio Wirral app, ask your smart speaker to "Play Radio Wirral" or on Tune In.
