My Favourite People

My favourite people are...

all in this book. And I'm going to tell you all about them. You can meet my Auntie Meg and Uncle Steve, my best friend Alice, my favourite footballer and the band that's going to save the world. Then I'll tell you about a brilliant idea I've had...

This is my picture book debut and is a fun illustrated journey through childhood and the friends and family who make it possible. It's an amusing and insightful look at the world around its central character, an excellent read-aloud or read-alone. It encourages young people to look at relationships and recognise their importance. It will appeal to girls and boys of lower primary age – and to parents and teachers reading the book aloud.

Illustrated by Simon Goodway.  Published April 2018.

'I thought that this was a really fun way for young children to identify who are their "favourite" people in their lives.

I liked the way that the book was set out and that the book had a wide range of people from different ethnic backgrounds and a wide range of diversity was shown and how the book shows that children can like people for a wide variety of reason[s] too, none of which are wrong.

I liked the [section] at the end which encouraged questions and probing around the topic to make it a more than a traditional story book.

It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!' - Donna M, NetGalley reviewer.

'My Favourite People is a great story for younger children. It tells the story of a boy and his favourite people; some who are in his family, some are not, some he’s never even met. He tells why each and every one of them is so important to him. There is a wide variety of people who are important to him. This book illustrates the importance of different relationships for young children. There are some fantastic discussion activities at the back related to the book as well. A very important book for young children.' - Addicted to Books

'Although this book is short (just 16 pages) it generates so much conversation you can easily spend 30 minutes reading it! At the back, there are 4 pages of suggested activities which you can do with your child. These encourage further thought about the nature of their relationships and include ideas for talking, drawing and even a talent show!' - Ivy's Library

'My Favourite People will suit pre-schoolers or children of early primary age and will be as useful in a classroom setting as it will be at home.

One of the things I like most about Rob Keeley is that he really thinks his projects through. My Favourite People has a final section of suggested activities reinforcing the book's central theme - the importance of our relationships in anchoring our lives and identities.

My Favourite People explores the different relationships we have in our lives in a clear and accessible way. It's bright and funny and engaging and the associated activities will enable children to identify and celebrate the relationships in their own lives.

Recommended.' - Jill Murphy, The Bookbag

'This [is] a good book for young readers to identify their favourite people in their lives. Full of diverse characters from all walks of life it will encourage kids to see the value that people bring to their own lives. Especially like the discussion prompts at the end of the book to encourage readers to relate to the story.' - Ruksana Khalid, NetGalley reviewer.

'I appreciated the diversity showcased in the book. The easy expression of emotion was also admirable. The discussion questions at the end of the book also make it a good candidate for a read-aloud treat for very young children.' - Brittany G, Educator, via Netgalley

'This picture book has a great concept and really appealed to my three-year-old. At an age when he loves talking about people in his life, this was a perfect book to read to him. He loved the bright illustrations, which kept his one-year-old sister engaged too, and talked animatedly about the book.  I encouraged him to talk about similar people in his own life.

A fun and engaging book, I could see how this would appeal to children both pre-school and for use in the classroom for lower primary school. A great introduction for children to encourage them to talk about the people in their lives.

As both a teacher and parent, I could see the potential for this lovely picture book and would recommend. It flowed easily to read and was enjoyable for the adult reading too. A different read from what I have read by the author, but another fabulous effort nonetheless.' - Emily Williams Author Blog

'The perfect length for pre-schoolers, or those just learning to read. Each page is beautifully illustrated with bright, colourful drawings that complement the book and are eye-catching.

At the back of the book, Rob has written four pages of suggested activities to accompany each page. These activities are all manageable whether at home or for a teacher to do with his/her class.

The whole concept of the book has been well thought out and written with engagement in mind. It is a lovely book and Rob can certainly be proud of his first ever children's picture book.' - Whispering Stories blog

'...a bright and bubbly book that has plenty of colourful illustrations and educational activities inside to keep young children entertained and engaged...

...at the back of the book are a number of suggested activities that make it easy for those reading with youngsters to make the reading experience more personal and to engage with what they are reading and seeing.

Lots of fun!!' - Karen Mace, blogger
